Types of Differentiated Instruction

• ATI supports three types of differentiated instruction:

→Instruction involving corrective feedback provided to individual students regarding their responses to specific test items
→Provision of next instructional steps for groups of students at risk for not mastering standards
→Instruction for students at varying ability levels manifesting different growth patterns

• Differentiated instruction in the form of item-level feedback is provided through the Intervention Alert displayed on the staff Dashboard. The Alert allows the teacher to view student responses to individual items and to provide explanatory feedback to promote learning related to specific items. The Intervention Alert is very popular. It was implemented over 600,000 times during the last year.

• Differentiated instruction for students at risk of not meeting standards is provided through the Instruction Performance Tracker on the staff Dashboard. The Tracker lists objectives previously assessed and identifies the percentage of students at varying levels of risk for mastering each objective. Clicking on one or more risk groups brings up Dialogs that can be used to implement next instructional steps for students in the selected risk groups.

• Differentiated instruction involving varying growth patterns is supported by the Student Growth and Assessment display on the staff Dashboard. The display cross classifies students in terms of achievement level and growth.

• Four categories are provided: Students who evidence low achievement and low growth, students who evidence low achievement and high growth, students who evidence high achievement and low growth, and students who evidence high achievement and high growth.
